Family reunion · Service

Bring your family to Germany.

You live in Germany, and your partner or children should join you. We check the requirements with you, prepare every document and form, and help your family settle in once they arrive. Your family submits the application themselves.

  • Requirements checked first
  • Visa forms pre-filled for you
  • Help after arrival, too
Family reunion explained: requirements, documents, arrival
Who it's for

For people in Germany whose family should be here too.

This is for you if

  • You live in Germany legally, and your permit allows family to join you. Not sure? The check below tells you.
  • Your spouse, registered partner or children under 18 want to come.
  • You want one person to keep the whole process organised, from the first document to the first day at school.

This is not for you if

  • You are on a Chancenkarte or a job-seeker permit. These usually do not allow family to join yet. Once you switch to a work permit, we can help with the switch first.
  • You are in an asylum procedure or have a Duldung. A free migration counselling service is the better first stop.
  • You need a lawyer for a refused application or an appeal.
Is this for you?

Can your family join you? Find out first.

A few short questions about your permit, your housing and your income, so you know where you stand before anything is ordered.

Start your family reunion

This check is an indication based on your answers, not a legal assessment. Only the authorities decide on an application.

How it works

From the first check to the first school day.

Embassy waiting times vary a lot by country, and we do not control them. Everything on our side, we keep moving.

  1. First

Pre-check: can your family join you?

Whether your family can join you depends on a few things: your residence title, enough living space, enough income to support everyone without state benefits, and in many cases basic German for your partner, unless an exemption applies. We go through these public criteria with you before anything is ordered, so you know where you stand and what, if anything, is still missing.

    What you get

    • Your residence title, housing and income checked against the public criteria
    • Clarity on the language requirement, or an exemption
    • A list of anything that is still missing
  2. Documents

    Documents for every family member

Embassies are strict about civil documents. Marriage and birth certificates often need an apostille or legalisation and a certified translation, and the rules differ by country. Each family member gets their own checklist. We coordinate the translations and the apostille or legalisation, and we check every document before it goes in.

    What you get

    • A document checklist for each family member
    • Translations and apostille or legalisation, coordinated
    • Every document checked before submission
  3. Visa

    Forms, appointment and proof

We pre-fill the visa forms and prepare the appointment at the German embassy or the visa centre (VFS). Here in Germany, we help you put together the proof of housing and arrange family cover with your health insurer. Your family member then submits the application in person, with a complete file.

    What you get

    • Pre-filled visa forms
    • Embassy or VFS appointment prepared
    • Proof of housing, and family cover with your health insurer
  4. After arrival

    Settling in as a family

When your family lands, a second round of paperwork starts, this time in Germany. We help with the address registration, the residence permit appointment and the child benefit application, and we support you in finding a nursery or school place, so the first weeks are about arriving, not about forms.

    What you get

    • Address registration
    • Residence permit appointment
    • Child benefit application
    • Help finding a nursery or school place

Questions people ask first

Straight answers.

Which family members can join me?

Usually your spouse or registered partner and your children under 18. Other relatives only in exceptional cases. The pre-check tells you what applies to your family.

Does my partner need to speak German?

Often yes, at a basic level (A1). There are exemptions, for example for spouses of Blue Card holders. The pre-check tells you whether one applies to you.

How much living space and income do I need?

Enough space for your family and enough income to support everyone without state benefits. The exact figures depend on your city and your family size, and we work them out with you in the pre-check.

How long does it take?

Preparing the documents usually takes a few weeks. Waiting times for embassy appointments and processing vary by country, from weeks to many months. We give you an estimate for your family's country in the first call.

Who submits the application?

Your family member does, at the German embassy or the visa centre. We prepare everything so they walk in with a complete file.

Do you give legal advice?

No. We organise, prepare and check, and your family applies in their own name. If your case needs a lawyer, we tell you and can refer you to a partner law firm.
